Liu Yao Chun, born in 1971 in Huining County, Gansu Province. September 1990-July 1994, he studied as an undergraduate in the Department of History, Sichuan University; July 1994-July 1997, he stayed as a master candidate in World History at the School of History and Culture of Sichuan University. After graduation in July 1997, he has stayed at the University as a teacher. From September 2001 to June 2007, he studied as an on-the-job doctoral candidate at the School of History and Culture of Sichuan University, and received a doctoral degree in History (World History) in June 2007. From October 2008 to October 2009, he was Visiting Scholar at the Department of Middle Ages and Renaissance Studies at the School of Culture and Philosophy of the University of Florence in Italy. From September to November 27, 2015, he was awarded the Mellon Fellowship by Villa I Tatti, Harvard University.

His academic interests mainly include: social and cultural history of early modern Europe (with an emphasis on the European Renaissance); European urban history (1000-1750).
