Ren Naiqiang (1894-1989), who styled himself Xiao Zhuang, Sichuan Nanchong people, was a reputed historian and ethnologist, and one of the pioneers in the studies of Tibetology in modern China. He had served successively as professor of Chongqing University, West China University of Medical Sciences, and Sichuan University, Director of the China Nationalities Research Association, advisor of Chinese Association for Nationality History and Sichuan Ethnology Society, and special research fellow of Sichuan Provincial Academy of Social Sciences.
